The International Auto Expo

My family goes to the auto show every year... this year was no different, fun as always!

Of course we had to come to the Utah State Fair, it's tradition now! I especially love going to the fair, so many fun and funny things to do and watch. We didn't ride any rides this year, but we did pay $2.00 to see the "World's Smallest Woman" and yes, she is real (Jared just had to verify!). However, she was not exciting at all, she was just a small midget from Haiti sitting on a chair behind the curtains. Still, humorous though!

Oh Seattle! I really wish that I could say I went there for pleasure, but no it was for business. The first day back from my wedding and honeymoon actually- go figure! I went to a leadership conference with KPMG (back before the job change) It was only an overnight stay, so not too bad. We had meetings throughout Monday and after the managers took us out to the ball game. We went to see the Seattle Mariners game. It was fun. We had meetings early the following day, and I had an afternoon flight. I, being the absent minded individual that I am, didn't verify the time of my flight... I texted my husband to check to see when it was. He said it was at 4:30. My meetings ended at about two-thirty or so (pacific time). The KPMG office is only 5 blocks from Pike's place and the Public Market. So I decided that I would walk on over there to sight see, then catch a cab back to the airport in an hour. I got to the pier and only spent about ten minutes there, being the googley-eyed spectator and taking a million pictures. I then got a text message from the husband asking if i was at the airport yet, or through security. I said no, why? I wrote back and said because your flight is at 4:30... MOUNTAIN time!! I looked at my phone and I hadn't realized the hour difference, I was only 45 minutes away from my flight! I then switched into crazy mode, dropped my camera in my purse and started running as fast as my feet (with cowboy boots) could carry me 5 blocks back to the office to get my briefcase, computer, and carryon bag! I wasn't even looking at the street crossing lights- I only glanced for oncoming traffic then ran across all intersections. I got back to the office, sweat running down my face, told the secretary to call me a cab and ran back out the door. The cab seemed to take FOREVER, but finally got to the building and asked, "Where to?" I said, "How fast can you get me to the airport, my flight leaves in 45 minutes!?" He looked at me and all he said was, "I can try." So he drove like a crazy person (in his gutless Prius, of course) and got me to the airport in 25 minutes. Still panicked I ran to the counter to check in. To my dismay they told me that I couldn't because it was within a half hour of take off... I begged! They called the gate agents... who told them that I could chance it, but they wouldn't hold the plane for me. So I ran to the security line-praying it wouldn't be long... LUCKY DAY! There were only three people in front of me... I then had to run (literally sprint) down 2 flights of escalators, jump on a tram, get off and sprint up 2 more flights of escalators and book it to the gate. I literally felt like I was straight from the scenes of Home Alone where there are furiously running through the airport, that was me. The gate agents saw me sprinting from a far, and yelled out at me... Are you Aubrey Bickmore?! I, huffing and puffing, responded yes! They said, you made it. Relieved, I literally got on the plane sat down, they closed the doors, and initiated take off! There I sat, panting, sweating, and shaking all out of my sheer stupidity... How did I do that? How did I not factor in the time zone change? Better yet, how lucky was I that I actually made it? Needless to say, when I got off the plane I called my new husband, to tell him I made it... he only shook his head in amusement when he picked me up. Only me, right? To my dismay my calves were sore for a week straight- I hadn't ran that fast or hard in a really long time!!

In the late summer, just before the weddin' we also went to Red Butte Gardens! We actually got there 1/2 an hour prior to closing... because we were unaware they closed early that day. So we ran around part of the garden and snapped a couple shots.

It's time for a change- a JOB change!

As many of you know I have worked for a BIG 4 accounting firm called KPMG, LLP for the last 3 1/2 years. Over these past few years I have definitely learned a ton, grown intellectually and professionally, and most of all made many friendships with the great people who work in the Salt Lake City office. However, along with working for a BIG 4 professional accounting firm also comes a lot of dedication, hard work, sleepless nights, fatigue, and an overwhelming feeling that more often than not, you have absolutely NO life! Many of my good friends, parents, grand-parents and others have wondered when this splendid day would come, that I would choose a more balanced/healthy life-style, and now it has come!

I have recently accepted a position at Savage Services Company. I will be working in the accounting department (obviously) performing many different responsibilities including: JV accounting, international accounting, and financial reporting. I am so excited! This job opportunity came to me through a "head-hunter/recruiter" who came across my information and happened to give me a call. So I decided to take a leap of faith, interview, research, and eventually make the decision to accept the position. I am excited for the new adventures this opportunity brings- especially the potential for a better and healthier work/life balance.

We went to Chicago!! Ok, so it was a work trip really- mixed in with a little night-life fun! We are lucky in some ways to work for the same Company and be on the same level- because that means our annual training is or can be at the same place and time! So this year it was in Chicago, which neither of us had been to before. So we took advantage of the free flight and hotel stay and after training was over we went out on the town at night! It was super fun, we walked FOREVER but had a blast!

So the Sky-Deck is technically a couple of Plexiglas decks which hang out over the edge of the side of the building. Since I am TERRIFIED of heights, cliffs, edges, etc. I was absolutely scared to death to even creep towards the deck. But, of course, I had to go because we were only going to be there once and it's all in the experience right?

He wasn't scared at all!

I am trying not to show it, but I'm definitely afraid!

Maybe if I just sit down and don't look under me, then it will be ok?

Day 2:

We had been given so many recommendations for good eateries, but couldn't make it to ALL of them given our time frame, so we decided to hit up a couple and just get little things at each. We got a burger at Weber's Grill- pretty good!

Apparently the Italian beef sandwiches are supposed to be AMAZING in Chicago. So we went to the highly recommended Portillo's. This is what the sandwich looked like- awful right?

Well awful it was! It was plastered with grease and nasty-ness! I didn't want to touch the thing, here is Jared trying to look through the sandwich to see if any of it was edible. Yucky!

I would NEVER recommend this place- just FYI

My friend Caroline had recommended that we go to Ghiradelli's and get a hot fudge sundae. When I heard there was a Ghiradelli's in town, I was all for it!

My sweetie was so nice to let me get WHATEVER I wanted... even though it included hot fudge DARK CHOCOLATE, because it is my absolute favorite chocolate in the world! It was super rich, but amazingly delicious!

We also found a carnival on Chicago's Navy Pier- so we went! It was super fun and we got to ride the Ferris Wheel, which I thought would be awesome. Which it was, after I got over the height factor- again!

Yes, Yes- It is true- Jared and I are engaged. I know this post is SUPER late... but always better late than never right?

The jist of "our story" is this... We have known each other for about 5 years. I had never considered dating him at all, because I didn't have any interest and we were like best friends/buddies. When a little over a year ago he asked me a very "awkward" question. The question went something like this, "I've always wanted to ask and I think I would regret it if I never did... so I'd like to take you out if you'd go with me." This to me was shocking, because I thought we were on the same page with the whole "don't cross that FRIEND" line... but apparently I was wrong. I sat there very timidly and said, "Can I think about it?" After about a week, I agreed to go out with him once or twice, but that I thought, would be it. After a couple of dates, I realized that he treated me like a queen and was the perfect gentleman! Where did this come from? I had never seen this side of him before. So I asked, he answered and said that he treats his dates differently than just his friends, because there is a different relationship and level of respect there. I liked what I saw and heard, so I just didn't say "no" to anymore of his date offers. So long story short- after about a year of dating, most of our dating being "undercover," we decided to get married-crazy huh?

Now for the engagement story... We had looked at rings for weeks, because I absolutely LOVE diamonds and just had to make sure I "LOVED" the one that we would get. I fell in love with a certain ring and we decided that it probably would be "the one." That was a couple of weeks before Easter. His parents, who live in Idaho were scheduled to come down for the Easter holiday, so I thought for sure that "it" would happen then of course, while they were in town. However, a couple of days (April 20th to be exact) before Easter weekend I received a surprise. It was just an ordinary day after work, I went over to his house not planning on doing much but maybe getting dinner and watching TV, because I had signed us up for some Fine China demonstration that evening (just to get a free hotel stay). When I got to his house, he asked me to come with him on a little hike up by Farmington. I, of course, didn't suspect anything because sometimes I'm just blonde. So he takes me up hiking to this little waterfall... which is on the edge of a cliff, and if you know me- I HATE edges and Cliffs. So I of course, didn't want to have much to do with the waterfall (much to his dismay). But he did give me a little present, which happened to be a swimming suit that I had wanted! After a few minutes of the waterfall, I was ready to head back and start driving to SLC for our Fine China presentation. But he stopped me in my tracks, and asked me to look at the sky and tell me what were a couple of big life goals that he wanted to accomplish. I was slightly confused, but he said he had another present for me- so I didn't mind. (I, of course, thought that it was going to be related to the swim suit such as a beach towel, flip flops, sunscreen, etc.) I guessed anything from skydiving to flying to Brazil- which were all wrong. When I was out of guesses, he told me to turn around. When I did- I definitely didn't see a beach towel or gear, but the ring that I LOVED! I didn't know what to do, so I let out a little yell because it was so surreal. He then asked me to marry him, to which I said yes! He then informed me that the WHOLE THING was video taped- the little sneaker!

Melting Pot and Surprises!

First of all, this boy is just so good to me! He love to surprise me with so many things... and I love it too! We went to the Melting Pot restaurant, one of our favorites, in March or April. We went right after work so we drove separate and met at the restaurant. I got there first. I kept watching tons of people come in, waiting to be seated. So with all of the people in the waiting area, I was watching and looking out the window to see if I could see him coming soon. Well I finally saw him coming up the street. He had his hands behind his back, which I thought was a little weird, but didn't really phase me. But as soon as he walked in the doors into the seating area (with all those other people) he pulled out from behind him a HUGE bouquet of flowers and gave them to me! I was shocked, surprised, and embarrassed! Now, don't get me wrong I wasn't embarrassed about the flowers- I just didn't know what to do with all of those people looking at me. Isn't he just so thoughtful?! Love him!

So many of you know that my hair is as straight as straw... and I can never get it to curl and stay without significant effort. So one Saturday I decided to surprise Jared with curly hair, because he likes it that way. So I went on over to Sherman Kendall's and they did my hair for me! It took a couple hours, but it stayed pretty well!

And he LOVED it!

Mini- Golf Date Night

Well, if any of you know Jared well- you know he LOVES golf, and rightfully so. However, I have also picked up an interest in the sport over the last couple of years too! So of course, we love going on golf dates! This one was a mini-golf date!

Way back when, during February J (Jared) and I invited a bunch of our really good friends to go visit the ice castles in Heber. It was so much fun! We had never seen anything like these castles. I would totally go all over again and recommend them to anyone!

Mini Melt Down...

These are pictures just before my mini meltdown. Here's the long story short I have long straight straight hair, which NEVER curls. Family pictures were this weekend, I wanted curls. I attempted curls only to end up with a tangled half curled rats nest in my hair. I cried, I ruined my make up, I got back in the shower 10 minutes before we were supposed to leave. I went to family pictures with my infamous straight hair. I think that after this experience, I think I will just give up on curls-possibly forever!

I just had to join the club!

Since I have been in the "professional" world for about 2 years, I decided I'd pick up the most famous "professional" sport. Ha ha ok, so I didn't just buy a set of clubs because I am a working professional, but I have actually been hitting around the driving range and small courses for the past few years with my best buddy Gav and my little brothers. I actually love going, and I find myself improving everytime! So I finally decided this year around it was time for me to buy my own set of clubs... so I don't have to continually borrow someone else's clubs! Can't wait to get out and golf!

One of my best Delta gals, Whitney, agged me in one of her last posts. I was "supposed" to select the first photo folder, select the the 10th picture, and post the story behind it. When I went to actually do it, the picture wasn't one I wanted to post or write about because it was close to my Grandmother's death. So I changed the rules a little bit and here we go:

1. I selected the 13th photo folder (because it was from summer)

2. I then selected the 85th photo (just to spice it up)

3. Here is the story behind it...

My friends and I went to the Utah State Fair last September. We had a night filled with rides, animals, shows, corndogs, grilled corn on the cob, and slides. After we had spent a few hours at the fair, we decided to go check out the tractors... and we ended up taking dozens of pictures!

Yesterday, my one day back in town, I went with my family shooting. My brothers have tonz of guns between all four of them, so we all went. It, to my surprise was actually quite fun, and I will definitely do it again! Here are some pics from the good time.

So as many of you know I went on a business trip for the last two weeks to a little tiny town called Chippewa Falls Wisconsin. Country Christmas Concert

If you know me at all, you know I LOVE COUNTRY- and everything about it. Anything country from music to rodeos, from boots to cowboy hats I am country through and through. I went to a Country Christmas Concert with two of my brothers and my momma. The Concert featured Bombshel, Bucky Covington and Phil Vasser. It was really fun!

A couple of weeks ago, on a Friday night I went to the Festival of Trees with Becky and Joshy. Here are a few pictures from the festivities...

So these pictures are a little backwards, but that is okay! At the end of the festival after we walked through hundreds of trees I made Becky and Josh do the "Bubble Machine" with me! I was so proud to introduce both of them to this fantastic machine, thanks to our friend Zack's brother Chad. Oh, and the best part- it was only two tickets!

October 8,2007: 2 years, too long...

It has been two years since my beloved Grandmother passed away. I can't hardly believe it has been an entire two years, yet the time has ticked away ever so slowly.

For me, the months immediately preceding her passing, were the hardest months of my entire life to date. Never had my heart strings been twisted, tugged, pulled, tightened, and torn so hard. Never had I experienced an aching in my soul for someone that I loved so much. Never had I felt so helpless as the time and days slipped by me in the blink of just an eye. Never had I tried so hard at wishing and praying that I could prolong the inevitable. Never had I so many sleepless nights and tear filled eyes than I did then. Never had I seen someone in so much pain have so much dignity and strength. Never had I realized time is more precious than anything else I could give. Never had I realized my inadequate piano skills could soothe the aching pains of cancer. Never had I realized I had been blessed to know her longer than was expected. Never had I realized I wished I could take her pain away. Never had I realized just the right color of roses could do so much. Never had I realized that my weekly visits & lunches would never be the same. Never had I realized I would have to wait such a long time to see her again. Never had I realized when she wanted me to stay, it would be the last time I'd see her...

Despite the fact that she has now passed onto the other side, she will always be with me in my heart and memories until we meet again…

Here is to my grandmother, my best friend, my advocate, my biggest fan, my confidant, my mentor, my secret keeper, my “slap-jack champion,” my favorite “cheese-wich” maker, my storyteller, my historian, my encourager, my scholar, my support, my advice giver, my evaluator, my favorite person, my “California Beach Buddy,” my family’s matriarch, my diamond inspiration, my fashion icon, my etiquette teacher, my most proper & elect lady, and my Ultimate Hero in this life. Why is it that: a harmless hangout with a longtime friend you haven't seen in a while turns into a quest for action, everyone at work has one opinion about your personal life, the Olive Garden started offering tummy aches rather than meals, it takes so long to achieve my dream:CPA, pressure at work can amount to more stress and insomnia than I thought, I didn't discover Quiznos Sammies before today, I don't get the work-life balance promised, vacations are too short and work is so long, parents do and don't want thier children to date at the same time, college was so short, MOST (not all) of my married friends think they have 'one-upped' the single girls, the only time/reason you are invited to an event is to bring a present, one set of grandparents believe it were better I marry my divorced ex-boyfriend than not at all, I have to do the jean dance with my dress pants, one pair of heels never last long enough, romance isn't sacred anymore, the SAME guy at church asks me out every week-denied each time, your long lost friend thinks it is a good idea to 'set' you up just because you're single, guys don't know date etiquette, my hero couldn't have stayed with me longer, summer doesn't last long enough, I get paid practically nothing for what I do and the hours I work, my oldest brother is no longer anyone's friend but his own, morning always comes too soon-just after I fall asleep, I don't have time to do the things I want to do, misquitos make me swell WAY beyond normal, a new outfit can make you feel like a million $dollars$, I have a half a closet and both my brothers have a whole, when you get a bonus at work it is taxes 45%, married girls decide to wear thier husbands shorts/pants-they do make those things in the women's section, everyone feels it is necessary to shove me towards the bouqet toss at EVERY wedding, people don't understand YOUR plan for YOURSELF is different than what they had in mind- and that is OK, friends rag on you for being smart/dedicated to your education-it's an accomplishment people, it hurts to sit longer than 10 minutes on a bike, both my knees are jacked at the age of 23, I like celebrity magazines, auditing can be exciting, I was the guinea pig of the family for practicing parenting skills, people hate you because of your natural skin tone-I was born with it stop!, my younger sister now thinks 'swing dancing' is for her generation, pedicures are now my therapy, everyone else "knows best" for you....

I don't know people- these things just are!
